Self-Reflection

1.) I think I deserve a P on my senior project. The reason is because i have met all of my requirements as far as senior project goes.
2.) The one thing i have done well with is the service learning. For the past month and a half i have been going every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for three hours each day. I'm practically almost done with my service learning and it's December.
3.) The one thing I need to improve is my research. Since I have a martial arts the research tends to become repetitive. I'm having a difficult time finding new research and actual full articles that count as research.

Science Fair Proposal

1.) If a person can bench press at least 50lbs, then they will escape a jujitsu grappling hold in 5 seconds on average.
2.) Dependent (Produced): Amount of time it takes to escape a
type of jujitsu hold Independent(Manipulated): strength of volunteers (ability to bench press a certain mass)
Control: the type of hold, the person executing the hold, males (ages 15-25)
3.) This experiment pertains to my EQ because to be a successful jiu-jitsu practitioner you need training. In jiu-jitsu there are a lot of different grappling techniques.
4.) I will first test which jujitsu hold is the most effective.  Then, I will test the volunteer's strength by using a simple bench press exercise, perform the best jujitsu hold on them, and time how long it takes them to escape the hold.  I will then graph the data to find a relationship between upper body strength and time it takes to escape the hold, and research WHY I obtained specific results in the experiment.
5.)

What I've Learned So Far

1) I have obtained knowledge on different techniques the ju-jitsu has to offer that many other martial arts are not able to use due to their rules of "competition"
2) I am ready to take my next rank, purple belt, test next tuesday due to my return and constant practice at my dojo.
3) I had not returned to my dojo in over a year due to the stressful schedule at school and home. This is now my service learning and it has made me a more experienced fighter in just a matter of weeks.

Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

(1) I will practice a skill (Jiu-Jitsu) while documenting my practice and progress.
(2) Every tuesday I train at my Dojo for at least two and a half hours, plan on taking private practice with my sensei, and starting in the winter will give assistance to my sensei in teaching the younglings.
(3) This will help me answer my E.Q. by giving me an extra training, give me a teachers perspective, and learn from the little ones on what i need to teach better

Defining my Essential Question

1.)What is the most effective way to become a successful Jiu-Jitsu practitioner?
2.) Successful-being able to accomplish the use of the art.
3.) The most effective way to become a successful Jiu-Jitsu practitioner is through training.
The most effective way to become a successful Jiu-Jitsu practitioner is through blending knowledge of other arts.
4.)My most important source has been my sensei Nick De Mauro for the fact that he has been my teacher for the past 10 years and is a 8th degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu

Presentation Reflection

1) To be honest, my interview did not help at all. My interview helped me establish more of learning the  professional background of my teacher and also helped me learn of other persons who which I may interview.
2) What stood out was probably my visual/ uniform. The majority of my presentation was on the history of my topic. to incorporate my visual i actually explained the reason why us students where it.
3) Most challenging part was to when I got up there. All of a sudden that's when my nerves rattled. I was not nervous before the presentation I was reviewing what i was going to say over and over in my head but when I got up there I stumbled on myself, a little

Senior Project Presentation 1

For my 5 minute presentation I plan on going over the history and use of Jiu-Jitsu.
1. Explain where Jiu-Jitsu originated from
.
2. How Jiu-Jitsu was first used at that time
3. How Jiu-Jitsu is used today in our world.

Before i cover the history i will ask if anyone they know any background on Jiu-Jitsu. I will ask after each section one question about what i had just said. Each section will have a visual showing a picture of something that has to do with the section. Should only be about three and a half minutes.

What? Why? For what purpose?

My topic for senior project will be on my mix martial art Ju-Jitsu/Combat Jitsu. I chose this topic because I was not able to find the appropriate service learning for my previous topic. I was interested in doing my presentation on Air Force pararescue. Unfortunately I could not be a part or actually see the training due to it's intensity and the fact it takes place in texas. I decided to do it on this martial art. By doing my senior presentation on this matter I intend to teach others of this martial arts, the other martial arts  incorporated within mine, and for me to learn more about my martial arts. I do not intend to use this martial art to my own benefit since I see this matter as a self defense, not a sport.
